Sports

Hockey

In Regina Mundi, we have 9 teams competing in hockey: 3 first year teams, 2 minor teams, 2 junior teams and 2 senior teams. Regina Mundi competes at A and B levels in all age groups. All teams compete in the League and Cup competition under the Munster Schools Hockey Branch.

Training takes place in Garryduff from 4-5:30pm. Training takes place on a Monday for senior teams, Tuesday for 1st year and junior teams and Thursday for Minor teams.

We have had great success in hockey in recent years with our Senior A team reaching the Munster Cup final and our younger teams reaching and winning league and cup finals.

All students are welcome to join, no hockey experience is necessary.

Basketball

Regina Mundi College competes at the top level of school’s basketball in Ireland. Our 1st year, 2nd year, U16 and U19 teams offer an opportunity for all students to get involved.

In recent year Regina Mundi has achieved the following: U16A Regional League Champion’s (2021, 2022), U16A All-Ireland League runners up (2022), U19A All-Ireland Schools Cup semi-finalists (2023).

While Regina Mundi College competes at a high level, school basketball is open to all. Many students have started basketball for the first time as a first year and continued playing through secondary school.

Camogie

We have four teams competing in the Post Primary Schools Football Competitions. These include First Year, Minor, Junior and Senior.

These teams train collectively on a Monday afternoon from 4-5pm in Nemo Rangers GAA.

We have had great success over the past number of years, with our Senior team reaching the Munster final in 2022 and our Junior team reaching the Munster plate semifinal in 2023.

This year sees the introduction of a new Minor grade which is a very positive progression, as it bridges the gap between First year and Junior grades.

Swimming

The school has a history of great success in competitive swimming. The students train with their local clubs and then compete collectively for the school. They have been hugely successful in both the Munster and All Ireland Schools Galas over the past number of years.

We have had both individual and team success in these competitions with students winning gold, silver and bronze medals in individual and relay events.

Tennis

Tennis is a very popular sport amongst the students in Regina Mundi. Munster Tennis run a school’s competition in the Spring term which attracts great interest from many students. There are various grades and age groups that the students can compete in.

We are very lucky that Ballinlough Tennis Club allows us the use of their courts for our home games.

The students had a very positive experience in last year’s competition with our first-year team reaching the finals.

Athletics

Many students compete on behalf of the school in a wide range of athletic events however, they train for their chosen event(s) with their own clubs. Students have the opportunity to compete in the South Munster Schools indoor and outdoor competitions. Based on their results in the South Munster Competitions, students can qualify for the Munster and All Ireland Schools Athletics competitions.

The students have been very successful at various events over the past number of years, proudly representing their school.

Rowing

We have recently partnered with the Lee Rowing Club to provide students with an opportunity to compete in Schools Rowing. Students with no prior experience have an opportunity to try out rowing on Wednesday afternoons with the help from experienced coaches. Experienced rowers will continue to train with their local clubs and will then come together to train prior to any schools’ competitions.

Sailing

Students who have experience of sailing can enter the annual Inter Schools team sailing competition. This competition is run by Irish Sailing in a different club each year. This event allows schools to compete for trophies in various categories. Each school nominates a Sailing Captain and can enter a maximum of three teams with two or three boats on each team.

Equestrian

Students can compete on behalf of the school in any school equestrian competitions that are held during the year. Students train with their own clubs and must have their own horse to compete in these competitions.
