Parents Council

The Parents Council of Regina Mundi College Cork is a group of parents who have children attending the college.

We meet once a school term and the management from the school are invited to attend.

  1. To be a means of communication between the parents and the management of the college.
  2. To support the college Financially e.g. by fundraising for different projects.
  3. To organize information evenings for parents and social events.

A brief history

Originally the college was a “fee paying” school. When the “free scheme “ came in ,it was arranged between Miss Margaret ‘Daisy’ Corrigan (Foundress and then Principal of the college) and the parents that they would assist financially in the development of the college. A finance committee was formed. The members were all the parents.

When it was decided to replace the old school with a new one, the parents formed a new finance committee and confined itself to fundraising for the school, the finance committee was in existence before the Parents Council which was formed in 1974.

The role of the Parents Council has always been one of support.

Recent Years

In the last number of years, we have helped in the fundraising and planning with the extension of the school in the transformation of our library and the new classrooms built. We work with the management of the school and liaise with them on fund raising projects moving forward.

Constitution of the Parents Council

  1. This Body shall be known as Regina Mundi College Parents Council.
  2. Membership shall be confined to Parents and Guardians of students attending the school.
  3. The objects of the council shall be to act as an advisory body to the Board of Directors and to promote the educational and general welfare interests of the pupils in the school.
  4. The Council shall consist of 12 Parents and 5 members shall form a quorum.
  5. Officers shall consist of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Assistant Secretary and shall be elected by the council.
  6. Election of officers and members of the council shall take place every year at the AGM of all parents to be held no later than the 30th November. Outgoing officers and members of the council will be eligible for re-election.
  7. Co-option: The Council shall co-opt (a) The Principal and (b) The Vice Principal as non-voting members of the council. They shall also co-opt other members to fill vacancies that may occur on the council or to provide necessary expertise.
