The 5th and 6th year Art students were privileged to welcome acclaimed artists and sculptors Liam Lavery and Eithne Ring, a creative partnership that has been shaping the Irish public art landscape for over two decades. Over the years, their artistic practice has evolved from crafting intimate low-relief wall panels in cast aluminium to producing ambitious large-scale public commissions that integrate an array of materials—including cast bronze, wood, enamelled copper, glass, stone, and stainless steel.
During their engaging visit, the artists shared the stories and creative processes behind some of their most celebrated works, including The Wave in Kinsale, The Smell of Crime on Spike Island, and Strongbow and Aoife. Each piece reflects their thoughtful use of materials and strong sense of place and narrative.
Lavery and Ring brought not only a wealth of technical knowledge and artistic insight, but also a deep passion for their craft that resonated powerfully with the students. Their presentation left a lasting impression on our Senior Art students, inspiring both their written reflections and practical artistic explorations going forward.
