This morning Sadhbh, Emily and Lily from 1 Zeta gave an insightful assembly raising awareness of the Happy Doggo Charity ahead of our raffle on Friday. The girls delivered a powerful and well-spoken message. It isn’t easy to stand up and speak in front of the school community so a big well done to Sadhbh, Emily and Lily on doing such a great job.
The following video was shown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDlFSeXqCA0. The girls spoke about how dogs are left abandoned, knocked down and barely clinging to life. They outlined how Niall Harbison and the Happy Doggo help these dogs. What started as a mission just in Koh Samui in 2021, grew to the whole of Thailand and now all over world. They detailed how the HD neuters, feeds, treats and in some circumstances rehomes the dogs they come across on the streets.
Up to February 2025, the HD have neutered 50,000 dogs, this means they have saved over 250,000 dogs from future suffering.
They feed 800 dogs on the streets every day.
They provide funds for live saving care and treatment to dogs they come across with various injuries and illnesses such as broken bones, flea infestations, cancer and organ failure.
Even though Niall explained adoption isn’t the fix for the stray dogs, they have rehomed 60 dogs – who would not survive on the streets – all over the world .
The girls also told Marshmallow’s story. Marshmallow was found with her sister Candy, having been abandoned on a building site where they were living under a metal sheet. Marshmallow was very frightened so it wasn’t easy to rescue her and she was still very shy and nervous. But with lots of patience, tasty treats and love these two sisters came out of their shells. Marshmallow especially loves trips to the beach. The Happy Doggo reached out on Social Media to find Marshmallow a home. Shonagh (Ms Barry’s best friend) saw the post and got in contact about adopting Marshmallow in October 2024.
Fast forward to February 23, 2025…
Marshmallow made her journey from Koh Samui to Bangkok, moving on to her final flight from Doha. She arrived into Dublin airport at 6a.m. to be greeted by her new family. Marshmallow now lives in her forever home in Carrigaline, thanks to the Happy Doggo and the family who have adopted her. The lesson we have learned is one person can make a huge difference….
The Happy Doggo needs our help. Tickets for our raffle are on sale in the well until big lunch on Thursday.
