Minor Cork Cup Semi-Final
The Minor Soccer team journeyed to Banteer Astroturf to play against Boherbue Comprehensive School today. The girls came to North Cork and left with a convincing 3-0 victory. They will now proceed into the Cork Cup final which is to be played in a neutral venue (TBD) against Colaiste Choilm.
Our team started strongly with intense pressure from our forward players. This pressure led to an opening shot from Mia Quille within in the first five minutes of the game. The shot couldn’t be saved by the keeper and this early lead gave the girls an excellent start to the game.
The first half mainly featured RMC attacking Boherbue’s goal. Boherbue’s defence stood strong and they managed to muster a few counter attacks which was stopped by our strong and mobile defensive line.
The second break-through came from Olivia Browne battling two players to win the ball, she then proceeds to lay it off to Poppy Lynch who steps into midfield and plays it into Rose Davis who slips through Mia Quille for her second impressive finish of the day.
The game continued into the second half in a similar fashion; RMC dominating possession but Boherbue standing strong defensively. The girls continued to valiantly fight for every ball and run until exhaustion.
Just before the final whistle blew, Emma Davis chased a loose ball into the box which looked lost. She battled to get a hold of the ball and managed to scoop it over the oncoming goalkeeper and lob the ball into the opposing corner. It was a fantastic goal to end a fantastic performance.
We now look ahead to the final which features our toughest opponents to date. The girls will be waiting excitedly for the details of their chance to retain the Cork Cup.
Well done girls!
